Here’s some handy things we’ve found- these are recommendations from our volunteers and families based on real use

Wellies
These wellies from Decathlon are waterproof, comfortable, and toastie warm. I’ve worn them all day in temperatures just above freezing, and don’t get cold even with normal socks

Available in Kids, Mens and Womens versions, these are also very affordable

Torch

No specific item here, but we recommend a USB rechargeable head torch
Head torches are great on camp, or when walking, as it leaves your hands free. USB recharge reduces the need to replace batteries, and also means it can be charged on camp using a power bank if needed
Always pack your torch somewhere handy- a side or top pocket of a bag- so it’s easy to find

Sleeping Bag

Look for a 2 season sleeping bag as a minimum. 3 season is better, and can be used in colder weather. ‘Child’ versions of sleeping bags will only last a couple of years, so we recommend buying a full size adult sleeping bag instead
We haven’t tried this one, but it’s the right type of thing, and is available as a square or mummy sleeping bag https://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/16559993/berghaus-transition-300c-sleeping-bag-16559993

Blanket

Wool or fleece blankets are toasty warn. but fleece blankets can be dangerous around fires, so take care

Try cutting a head hole in the middle, to make the blanket wearable, and then sew on your camp badges

Roll Mat

Airbeds are great- but they take time to blow up, take up a lot of space, and tend to break easily

A self inflating mat (SIM) is a good choice. Look for something at least 3cm thick and 50 t 60cm wide. Prices vary wildly, but you shouldn’t need to pay any more than £30

Some of our members use this, which is a good compromise between an airbed and SIM:

Bag

No need to buy anything special. Rucksacks are OK but holdall’s work well. Wheeled suitcases don’t work for campsites, but can be OK for indoor venues. Sleeping equipment can just go in a big shopping bag or be carried separately

Personalised Clothing

You can order direct here, for T Shirts and Hoodies with our group name, and add your childs name or nickname
